As the Head of Development, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company by managing and mentoring a diverse team of developers. You will oversee development projects, foster collaboration, and drive excellence in software development practices. In addition, you will need to manage a geographically dispersed team, with regular travel to Malta and Cameroon.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Leadership and Development:
- Recruit, hire, and onboard top-tier developers to build a high-performing development team.
- Develop and implement training and mentorship programs to enhance team members’ skills and knowledge.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members to foster a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and set clear goals and expectations for team members.
2. Project Management:
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of all development projects, ensuring they meet quality, timeline, and budgetary goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and quality assurance, to align development efforts with company objectives.
- Monitor project progress and implement strategies to mitigate risks and address issues as they arise.
3. Geographically Dispersed Team Management:
- Effectively manage a team of developers located across various geographical locations.
- Foster open communication and collaboration among team members, regardless of their physical location.
- Coordinate team activities and meetings to ensure seamless execution of projects.
4. Innovation and Technology Strategy:
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development.
- Drive innovation within the development teams, identifying opportunities for process improvements and technological advancements.
- Define and execute a clear technology strategy that aligns with the company’s long-term goals.
5. Travel Requirements:
- Travel to Malta once a month and Cameroon once a quarter (based on company exigences) to facilitate team interactions, address operational needs, and build strong working relationships.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Proven experience in leading and managing development teams, preferably in a geographically dispersed setting.
- Strong technical background with expertise in software development methodologies, tools, and frameworks.
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of successful project deliveries.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Willingness to travel as required to meet the job responsibilities.
Experience and Skills:
- 3+ years experience in managing and leading high performing teams of talented developers, QAs, Devops and IT people
- Extensive knowledge in WordPress is a must
- 5+ experience in design, delivery, and implementation of business applications and/or technology solutions, preferably in PHP and/or JS
- Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile and Lean methodologies
- Hands on experience with CI/CD, DevOps Culture, Cloud operations
- High level of emotional intelligence such as self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills
- Fluency in English, written and verbal communication.
- Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Strong time management, organisational skills, personal accountability, and drive
- Incredible problem-solving abilities, ambitious and creative
- High business acumen and ability to participate and drive technical discussions with cross-functional teams
